For the social media campaign I decided to post about statistics, prevention tips and general awareness about HIV through the platforms of twitter and Instagram. Considering that the most at risk age groups for contracting HIV is 13 through 64, I decided to use these social media forms because they are very popular with middle school aged children all the way up to individuals in their 40s and so on. Also, HIV is not generally talked about or seen as a valid concern with the younger generations because they may not feel that they are at risk of they are not x, y, or z; this being from the continues stigma circling around HIV as being a disease that only homosexual males, those who are not in a relationship, and others can catch, while the reality is that anyone who engages in sexual activity or IV drug use is at risk.
The above photos are screenshots from my Instagram. I posted a few mages regarding HIV prevention general facts, and tips on how to get tested. I also created highlights on my page under the categories of, "Stop The Stigma", "Statistics", and "HIV Testing", where I shared photos from other HIV related Instagram pages and posted information respectively. I felt that sharing other accounts photos, quotes and stats would make by potential followers see other accounts posting information that they could then follow, keep up with, or even share with their friends.
These photos are screenshots from my HIV twitter page. Through this outlet I followed various HIV related accounts and retweeted their tweets regarding general HIV facts and statistics, along with general information like where to find an HIV test location using a test locator. I also generated some tweets of my own, where I made sure to hashtag #HIV whenever I included it in a tweet, as this allows other twitter users to search the hashtag and find my account. I also hash tagged phrases like #NationalHIVTestingWeek , which was a trending hashtag that week and could potentially draw more attention to my account and tweets. I focused my tweets mainly around testing information and infection rates to spread the word and make my followers aware that they are too at risk for contracting HIV even if they don't feel like they are. Also, I made multiple tweets about where to find a testing location because I assumed that high school and even some college aged individuals may not be aware of where to go, or may be too nervous to confront a family member about it and could then hopefully locate one on their own accord.
